Life in Balance

Welcome

NOTE:  I'M SORRY, I AM NOT ABLE TO TAKE NEW THERAPY CLIENTS, as I'm downsizing my practice to move into providing consultation and training for therapists on a full-time basis.  BUT PLEASE CONTINUE LOOKING ELSEWHERE!! If you are a therapist looking for coaching or consulting, please contact me via my consulting website at www.theinsurancemaze.com.

Do you lay awake at night worrying about work, finances, your kids, your parents, or a relationship that feels like it is slipping through your fingers? Do you find that you are so stressed that you seldom feel completely happy or relaxed? Is your life just not what you hoped it would be?

Most of us never took classes in Healthy Relationships or Effective Communication. We're all just doing the best we can every day. So maybe you'd like to learn some better communication skills. Maybe you want to learn to talk to your partner without getting into the same fight over and over. Maybe you are afraid your teen is making bad decisions, and you want to figure out how to get him to listen to you before it's too late. Or maybe you just need a private place of your own and someone to talk to – someone who will just listen, and won’t judge you, while you sort things out for yourself.

We all wish we could just "stop the world and get off" from time to time. Therapy is a good place to do just that. To help you objectively examine your feelings about relationships, think clearly about what's not working, and find creative new ways to approach old problems so you don't have to keep repeating them.

Unlike some therapists, you'll find I do more than nod my head supportively. In our first meeting I will ask you what you hope to get out of our sessions, and will stay focused on what you are needing throughout our work. I have extensive training in both brief and longer-term therapy, and I try to give a balance of constructive advice, honest feedback, empathy, humor, and warmth.

I know that sometimes the loneliest place can be in a relationship that isn't working. So while I am not currently doing couples therapy in my practice, sometimes amazing postive changes can happen even when just one partner seeks help. I can teach you how to talk so your loved ones will listen (something most of us never learned), and how to truly listen so they will talk to you. In addition to helping you break out of patterns that aren't working for you, we’ll work on building on the relationship strengths which brought you together in the first place. You may be surprised that you even laugh in sessions! I support all kinds of loving relationships, including traditional, non-traditional, and LGBTQQ.

While I don’t work individually with children or young teens, I LOVE working with their frustrated parents (and as a mom of a 25-year-old adopted daughter, I have personal experience!) I know that there is no "right" way to parent, so will help you come up with parenting responses that are not only effective, but that fit your beliefs and values.

I am in the office from 11:00 am to 5:30 pm Tuesdays through Fridays. To check availability, please email me at [email protected] with the issue you are seeking help for, your availability for routine appointments on weekday afternoons, and the name of the insurance you would be using, if any.  To see a list of some of the issues I can help with, visit my "Services Provided" page.  To get more information about me and my background, click here.  For information about fees and insurance I accept, click here.  For general questions about therapy, click here.

You don't need to keep feeling so alone, so anxious, or so sad. Right now, take just one simple step toward feeling better. Call or e-mail me (I usually respond faster to e-mail). What have you got to lose? I'll be happy to answer any questions you might have.

Warmly,
Barbara
